Big Ideas
In this unit, students expand on their previous work writing and solving equations of the form px+q=r and p(x+q)=r . Students learn to solve linear inequalities in one variable and represent the solutions on a number line. They understand the concepts of "less than or equal to" and "greater than or equal to" and use the corresponding symbols. They can express equivalent forms of numerical or linear expressions. Students also write and solve linear equations, including those with variables on both sides and equations with no solutions, one solution, or infinitely many solutions. They understand that equations can be false, true for one value, or true for all values of the variable, and they interpret solutions in context.
