About NEHS
The National English Honor Society (NEHS), founded and sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, is the only international organization exclusively for secondary students who, in the field of English, merit special note for past and current accomplishments. NEHS is open to high school students who have demonstrated exceptional ability in such areas as literary analysis, media studies, composition, linguistic study, and creative writing, and who meet the requirements of membership.
Benefits of affiliation include academic recognition and opportunities for networking with others who share enthusiasm for, and accomplishment in, the language arts.
"Gelast Sceal Mid Are"
The NEHS motto, "gelast sceal mid are," is Old English for: "duty goes with honor." The motto represents one of the earliest forms of our language—it affirms and celebrates an obligation to use one's gifts in service to others. Service to peers, school, and community is part and parcel of the NEHS mission—and, indeed, in the grammatical structure of the Old English phrase, "duty" actually precedes "honor."

Where Can I Track My Points?
Once you are accepted to NEHS through the application process, you will receive an email with the Google Classroom join code
Submit your activities to maintain membership via Google Classroom
The “Grades” section will reveal how many points you have earned
You do not have to complete every “assigned” opportunity in Google Classroom; you choose what you want to complete in order to earn points towards maintaining membership
Points will be assigned to you once the completed task is reviewed by the sponsor or NEHS officer
The "Service Hour Log" can be completed and turned in by the end of the school year for any service hour opportunities completed outside of the optional tasks assigned in Google Classroom; permission needs to be obtained prior to earning hours outside of the provided opportunities; all outside hours must be literary-related (example: volunteering at a library, reading to children, donating books)
