If parents would like to refer their students for the school year, please have them submit a referral. Once we get closer to the referral window, information will be sent to parents in the Furr newsletter! The referral link is currently closed but the new window will open from January 5th to February 2nd. Students will be assessed between February and May, and those that qualify for the program will begin receiving services in August 2024. If they have any questions about Gifted and Talented Services, please direct them to me. In December, the district administers the CogAT test to all 2nd and 4th-grade students. Although CogAT is not given to these grade levels specifically for gifted placement, the scores are used as ability data points to help determine the need for gifted services.
Students may sit for any standardized ability test only once per academic year.
Once a student is referred for testing, I will also send out a teacher input form. This is a very important part of the referral process since you know your students best! Please be as detailed as possible!
Upon completion of the testing, the campus GT Specialist will hold committee meetings where decisions will be made. Parents will be informed of these decisions via mail or e-mail. If any problem or question arises, please feel free to pass it along to your GT Specialist.
** We do not have a teacher referral form. So if you think a student might be GT, please have parents complete the referral form. We MUST have their electronic signature to pull for testing and potentially pull for services. **
