Exploitation Of Resources-
Only some of the trades that occurred between Portugal and India were peaceful. Most of the trades were aggressive and resulted in many small fights between the locals and the Portugese. The most notable example of this occurred in 1504, when Vasco da Gama's expectations on trade offers were not met. The Portugese ended up stealing valuable goods, such as spices and some special stones, along with timber, water, and food supplies.
Political Change-
Since the Portugese were the first European power to set foot in India, many other European countries became "Jealous" of this situation. The Indian Ocean trade was a highly profitable business and controlling it would be a game-changer. The Dutch, French, and British also wanted to establish trading posts in India, but since it was controlled by the Portugese, there would be some challenges. Many of these European powers would come to India but would be immediately "kicked out" by the Portugese.
