The elements of design are the fundamental aspects of any visual design which include shape, color, space, form, line, value, and texture. Artist's use the elements of design to create an image that can convey a certain mood, draw the eye in a certain direction, or evoke a number of feelings. While the elements of design form the basics of any image, artist's also lean on the principles of design, which are a set of practices of working with the elements of design that make a composition look pleasing to the eye.
The elements of design are the building blocks of what a visual artist use to make a successful composition. We use it to our advantage in film to help tell our stories, and create emotional weight. These are great ways to ensure we are shooting with purpose & give deeper meaning to our work.
The principles of design are fundamental guidelines that we follow to create visually appealing and effective compositions in our work. These principles help bring order, balance, and harmony to a design, making it more aesthetically pleasing and functional. We can, and do use these principles in film. These are just a few of the principles - there are about 10. I say about because it is widely debated how many there are, and what they are all called.
