See below for resources for our adult/older beginner students! The resources are broken up into three categories: Online/Website resources, Video resources, and Print resources. Find the type of resource you are looking and then feel free to use these resources to supplement your music learning in between in person lessons with Derek. Feel free to contact the studio for help using/utilizing any of the resources below.

With this website, they have several exercises to pracite note reading, chords, scales, key signatures, intervals, and even ear training skills. You can go through the exercises on the website link to the left, and/or this website also offers two paid apps that you can purchase and download on your smart phone or tablet.
Online Piano Coach Resources for Music Reading
If you scroll down the page, it has the resources divided by "beginner" and "intermediate". Pick the heading that best matches your experience/knowledge of music, and look at the resources underneath the heading to assist in strengthening your music reading skills. There are resources for note reading, reading music easier/faster, and even resources for sight reading (the ability to read/perform music without prior practice or having seen the music before).
How to Read Notes on the Staff
This video will help you review/learn about reading and memorizing note names of both the treble clef and the bass clef. You can use a blank piece of staff paper (see below in the print resources section) and magnets/stickers/marbles/rocks, etc. whatever you have to place on the lines/spaces to practice identifying the notes!
Understanding Rhythm
This video goes through and explains different rhythms that we might see when reading our music. Some of the rhythms might be too advanced for beginning students BUT it is always great to challenge yourself and use this video as a review for the rhythms that you do know! Once you review the rhythms, try drawing them on some paper and making your own music using the rhythms while clapping/counting.

Free Printable Blank Sheet Music Paper
Click the link to the left to find a website with tons of options for free printable blank sheet music paper (staff paper). You can print out whatever type you would like, and use it to practice writing notes, rhythms, composing your own songs, etc. Whatever you would like to do to practice your skills and/or be creative!
