Derek James Will Jeffers is the owner and music teacher for the Derek Jeffers Studio of Music. Mr. Jeffers holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in Music Education and a Master of Education degree (M.Ed) with a K-12 Music Teaching License, both from Milligan College in Johnson City, TN.
Mr. Jeffers has over a decades worth of performing experience in both piano and voice. Mr. Jeffers has a particular interest in Musical Theatre with peformance credits including Curly (Understudy)/Andrew Carnes/ Ensemble in Oklahoma! and performing the lead role of Quasimodo in the Milligan College production of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. He has most recently lent his voice as a pit musician in the upcoming, April 2021, Milligan University online production of Children of Eden Jr. Mr. Jeffers also has experience in choral music performing in ensembles at Milligan College (Concert Choir (Assistant Conductor/Vice President '18-'19), Heritage (Assistant Conductor '18-'19), and Herd Mentality) , Greeneville High School, and most recently in the Premier Men's Ensemble of the Tri-Cities AMEn where he was a guest conductor during the February 2020 concert cycle. He has performed with these ensembles extensively over the years throughout the country including performances in New York, Florida, Pennslyvania, Georgia, Ohio, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee.
Mr. Jeffers opened the Derek Jeffers Studio of Music in 2019, and has taught private voice and piano lessons to students as young as three all the way up through adults. The voice students of Mr. Jeffers have gone on to have successful auditions for local musical productions and in local talent competitions, with students of Mr. Jeffers performing for companies such as the Encore Theatrical Company in Morristown, TN and competiting in the Greene County Fair Talent Competition.
In addition to teaching private voice and piano lessons, Mr. Jeffers has also had experience interning in elementary general music (Prek-5th) in the Kingsport City school district, and has had internship experience teaching 9th-12th grade choir in the Sullivan County school district. Prior to the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, Mr. Jeffers was an interim music teacher in the Washington County, TN school district teaching Prek-8th general music.
Mr. Jeffers is excited to be able to connect with students and help them achieve their musical and personal goals. He strives to motivate and support each student to develop their musical skills and their life-long love of music.
