GLO Experience courses make use of the expertise and skills of professionals within our homeschool community to offer students practical hands-on opportunities for learning apart from a formal homeschool curriculum. These courses are designed by the tutor and center around in-class activities. While the class may require at-home assignments and/or projects, students are not formally assessed and no grade is assigned. Instead, a pass/fail mark is issued based on the student’s full and active participation.
Experience Courses rely on the enthusiastic and positive cooperation of all involved. For the good of the whole, students are expected to: apply maximum effort during classes, complete at-home work according to the class schedule, and come to class with a heart and mind to learn.
Since Experience courses are not graded by a tutor, homeschool parents will be able to evaluate their student’s work to assign the credit amount they wish to issue according to their own personal standards. Some parents may find that meeting 1.5 hours weekly for 15 weeks and doing some-at home work amounts to a half-credit class. Some parents may find that their student is keenly interested in the topic so that the long hours spent investigating equate to a full credit for the class. And, some parents may choose to augment the course content with assignments, readings, and activities tailored to their own student’s needs and interests before assigning a full credit.
The beauty of GLO Experience Courses is that students get to enjoy learning new things from outside experts while in the company of their peers AND parents get to assign course credit. We think it’s a win for everyone!
