Capstone Scholar

Course Description

Students will continue required levels of research and preparation for courses of substantial academic rigor through independent and collaborative studies. Students will be required to show academic progress as evident by classroom performance(s) in selective and associated courses. Students will be able to show characteristics of independent work ethic in courses of rigor by also maintaining an established GPA in core courses including world languages.

Pre requisite

Must be in Edison Magnet program, be enrolled in 3 or more AP courses, or 2 AP courses and 1 concurrent course, or be enrolled in the AP Diploma Program. A GPA of a 2.50 on a 4.0 scale must be maintained at all times.

Expectations

Students will verify their attendance with Mr. Cagle or in the counseling center (as directed) on a daily basis. All Capstone Scholar students will be given an identifying sticker to be affixed on the student ID. This sticker provides the student access to the Collegiate Center and the computers for independent work. During the Capstone Scholar hour students will be working on scholarly research, completion of assignments, collaborating regarding AP Seminar/Research presentations, and /or preparing for ACT/SAT college entrance examinations either through online or hard copy resources. This is also an ideal time for seniors to be completing their college admissions applications and associated scholarship opportunities.

Grading

If attendance and/or or utilization of time and /or falling below the qualifications become a concern you will lose this scheduled time in your schedule. Capstone Scholar is a discreet course for Edison students; please do not create a situation for yourself where this hour is no longer a privilege to you. Your grade is determined by your attendance, utilization of time provided, and current grades in AP courses and associated courses of rigor.

Scholars will be expected to read research papers created by their peers and provide feedback six times a semester. The quality of the feedback will be evaluated for a class grade.

If you have any question, comments, and/or concerns do not hesitate to speak with me.
