Seniors Dominate the Homecoming Events

By: Brianna Brodie

Homecoming started off on Monday, September 18th with dress-up days.  On Tuesday, the classes competed against each other in Powderpuff football games. Then, on Thursday, the high schoolers participated in Spirit Night. Friday, September 22nd was the Homecoming Football Game. And finally, the dance was on Saturday.

Powderpuff was played on the Football field at 7 o’clock on Tuesday. Powderpuff teams are made up of the girls in each grade. So, while the girls are playing on the field, the boys are on the sidelines coaching and giving them plays. The first game was played between the Freshmen and the Juniors. That game wasn’t a very close game, with the Juniors taking the win. After that game, the Seniors went up against the Sophomores. This game came to an end with the Seniors on top. After the first two games, the Seniors took on the Juniors for the Championship. This game was a close battle between the upperclassmen. With the time running out, the score was still 0-0. Within the last couple of minutes, the Seniors got an interception and ran it to the other end, for a pick-six. After a close battle with the Juniors, this secured the Seniors with a win, which made the Seniors back-to-back Champs!

Thursday night was spirit night. It was held in the Jr. High gym after chili dinner. Spirit night is when all grades compete against one another in a variety of events. The winner of the most events wins. Some of the events include hula hooping, tug-a-war, juggling, egg toss, caterpillar race, frozen t-shirt, and the bubble gum blowing contest. There was a close race for 2nd as the scores were 16, 22, 23, & 35. The winner won by 12 points. The winner of Spirit Night was the seniors. Coming in second were the Freshmen with the Juniors right behind them in 3rd, leaving the Sophomores in 4th and last place.

Also, on Thursday, they announced the Homecoming attendants. The Freshman attendants were Coley Palmer and Kamryn Smith. Sophomore attendants were Brock Butler and Brianna Ehnle. Junior attendants were Matthew Bowers and Montana Hoerr. The Senior Candidates, for king and queen, were Josh Hunt and Olivia Bird, Logan Carruthers and Claire Dearing, Tayshaun Kieser and Greta Dwyer, Brayden Harmon and Neleh Geiger, & Denzel Garza and Carina Giddings. The 2023 Homecoming Queen was Claire Dearing, and Mr. Football was Logan Carruthers.

At the dance on Saturday, the gym was set up and decorated masquerade-themed. The dance went from 8-11, and the court was announced at 9. The dance DJs were Seniors Aidan Huss and Alex Douglas.

Overall, the seniors won not only powder puff and spirit night, but they were also the winner of the best float, along with the freshman, and the winner of best door design.
