Fifth Graders Host National Reading Day

By Cassie Berchtold

This year, the fifth graders at Princeville Grade School celebrated National Reading Day. Because PGS has never done anything like this before, fifth grade teacher Dawn Campbell was both surprised and proud at how well the students participated.

The fifth graders invited the Pre-K through third grade students. Everyone brought in their favorite books, pillows, and blankets and some of the fifth graders read stories off of the smart board. Most classes spent around 15-20 minutes reading with the fifth graders.

Because of this successful day, fifth graders, as well as those who listened, think that Campbell should continue this next year, and possibly every year. Campbell thinks that this day was beneficial because it “provided the opportunity for fifth graders to become role models to other students.”
