The Princeville Princes are currently five and one with three tournament game wins and one loss, However, they remain undefeated in their regular season.

At the beginning of the Prince's basketball season, they played a game against Tremont. As soon as the buzzer went off, the princes “got off to a great start” explained Coach Jeff Kratzer, as Joey Smith was able to hit four three-pointers in the first quarter allowing for the princes to lead 19-12 at the end of the quarter.

The Princes “came out after halftime and had a big third quarter by scoring 20 points. they led the game by a point at the end of [that quarter]” expressed Kratzer. “The 4th quarter was led by the play of Sam Streitmatter who scored nine points and went three of four from the FT Line down the stretch,” Kratzer said. In the end, The Princes were able to win 63-56.

Tremont “was a great team win with a lot of players contributing towards the victory” explained Kratzer. “The Princes were led by Joey Smith with 20 pts. Sam Streitmatter also chipped in 11 points and made some big shots down the stretch for [the Princes] . Peyton Garcia had a great presence in the middle and added 10 pts in the victory”.

Dean Dearing one of Princeville’s Seniors after reflecting on the game felt that the game against Knoxville was “intense, but good.” Towards the beginning of the game The Princes, “were just trying to pull ahead and take control of the game. Throughout the entire game the score was pretty even, and [they] were pretty back and forth.

In the Princes Junior Varsity regular season, their first game was against Knoxville, where The Princes “offense was outstanding” explained Coach Tait Sennett. Their “ability to rebound and recover loose balls was amazing” stated Sennett. One item that stuck out to Sennett in the game was “the rebounding effort of our whole team. Rarely did Knoxville have more than one shot!” Although a lot of players were key in the Knoxville game, some that Sennett believed really played a big factor defensively were, Cole Brower, Torence Kieser, and Grant Hunt. Whereas, “Scout Schock and Marcus Daily Led [The Prince’s offense].” In the end, the Princes were able to win against Knoxville 43-29.

These few beginning games have allowed Princeville’s player to show what this season is truly about, teamwork and determination. As their season progresses, they hope to use the same attitude and effort in every game to come.
