RELIGIOUS EDUCATION INTENT STATEMENT -
At our school, Religious Education is an essential part of a broad and balanced curriculum, fostering Religious Literacy through a disciplined enquiry approach. Our intent is to enable pupils to engage with the complex "big questions" of life by exploring the substantive knowledge of various religious and non-religious worldviews.
By investigating the ways of knowing - the tools of the theologian, philosopher and social scientist—pupils learn to interpret the influence of faith on the local and global community. We empower pupils to develop their personal knowledge, reflecting on their own identity and values while building the respect and open-mindedness necessary to flourish in a diverse society.
🧠 Substantive Knowledge
We intend for children to build a coherent map of the beliefs, stories and practices of world religions and non-religious worldviews.
🎨 Ways of Knowing
We intend for children to learn how to study religion by asking big questions, looking at evidence and listening to the voices of believers.
🤲 Personal Knowledge
We intend for children to reflect on their own "positionality," considering how their own experiences shape their view of the world and others.
