RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IMPACT -
The impact of our RE curriculum is seen in the development of religiously literate pupils who possess the knowledge and confidence to engage in meaningful dialogue within a multi-religious and multi-secular society.
By the end of their journey at The Prince of Wales School, pupils will be able to:
Articulate Substantive Knowledge: Use a precise and expanding religious vocabulary to explain the core beliefs, stories, and practices of a range of religious and non-religious worldviews.
Employ 'Ways of Knowing': Demonstrate an ability to think like theologians, philosophers, and social scientists when investigating how worldviews function and influence the world.
Demonstrate Personal Knowledge: Offer thoughtful, informed insights into "Ultimate Questions," recognizing how their own positionality and values shape their responses to contemporary issues.
Navigate Diversity: Show a sophisticated understanding of the diversity within faiths, moving beyond stereotypes to appreciate the complexity of living worldviews.
Assessment is an ongoing process used to track progress across the Three Pillars of Progression:
Formative Assessment: Teachers use retrieval practice and low-stakes "check-ins" to ensure substantive knowledge is moving into long-term memory.
Summative Assessment: At the conclusion of an enquiry unit, pupils complete an Evaluate and Express task (e.g., the A3 Landscape projects) to demonstrate their ability to synthesize knowledge and personal reflection.
Leadership Monitoring: The RE Lead ensures the highest standards through:
Enquiry-Focused Book Scrutinies: Looking for evidence of the three pillars (What do they know? How do they know it? What do they think?).
Pupil Voice Interviews: Discussing "Big Questions" with children to gauge their disciplinary thinking and personal growth.
Learning Walks and Observations: Ensuring that the enquiry-based pedagogy of the Dorset Syllabus is consistently applied.
🧠 Substantive Knowledge
Our pupils can confidently "know more and remember more"
about the sacred stories and core beliefs of global worldviews.
🎨 Ways of Knowing
Our pupils have the tools to ask "Big Questions" and
can explain how different sources of authority influence a believer's life.
🤲 Personal Knowledge Our pupils can reflect deeply on
their own place in the world, showing respect and empathy
for those whose worldviews differ from their own.
