ART INTENT STATEMENT -
At The Prince of Wales School we recognise and promote Art and Design as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. We acknowledge the importance of nurturing creativity within each individual and aim to do this by inspiring creativity, harnessing imaginations and developing exploration and expression, whilst working both individually and collaboratively.
Within Art, children have the opportunity to work using a range of techniques such as painting, collage, textiles, 3D design, printmaking and digital media. They also have time to look at the work of a diverse range and variety of artists from around the world and we explore how the work of these artists and designers has shaped our culture. During art and design lessons and in our inspired weeks children have the opportunity to develop and extend their skills as well as express their own ideas, thoughts and interests.
Often Art and Design is woven into a wider curriculum here, where children can make links with different subjects, especially through our range of themed weeks throughout the year. Many of these themed weeks not only engage our children’s artistic abilities and celebrate our cultural heritage, global awareness, but above all they champion the creativity of our children. Our aim is to ensure that children see the value and benefit of a range of art forms and its impact within our lives, giving each child opportunities to reach their full potential.
