ART IMPACT -
In the early years Art and Design are integrated within the wider curriculum and often used as a means for children to express themselves and explore the world around them. The result is a nurturing environment which celebrates and encourages artistic expression.
Displays of work from our inspired weeks and from class learning around the school reflect the children’s sense of pride in their artwork and this is also demonstrated by creative outcomes across the wider curriculum. Progression of each individual child can be evidenced within sketchbooks and through writing about art and artists. The school environment also celebrates children’s achievements in art and demonstrates the subject’s high status in the school, with outcomes, including sculptures and murals enhancing the outdoor as well as indoor environment.
The Art curriculum at The Prince of Wales School contributes to children’s personal development in creativity, independence, judgement and self-reflection.
A clear picture of the impact of the Art curriculum can be seen through:
Assessing children’s understanding of topic linked vocabulary before, during and after the unit is taught.
Summative assessment of pupil discussions about their learning.
Images and videos of the children’s practical learning (see implementation examples).
Interviewing the pupils about their learning (Pupil Voice).
Moderation staff meetings (“Book Looks”) where pupils’ books are scrutinised and there is the opportunity for a dialogue between teachers to understand their class’s work.
