Mentorship
Dr. Kwan is committed to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in mental health and clinical psychology. Dr. Kwan's mentorship style is hands-on and proactive. She schedules regular meetings with her students to check-in on ongoing projects and to ensure her students are thriving in their studies. The lab meets regularly to discuss current lab projects, discuss and work through concerns that may come up, and to develop relationships among lab members in order to foster a "team" mindset. Lab CARES has a diverse group of students with varying cultural backgrounds and research interests. It is of the utmost importance to the lab to provide a place for students of various cultures and backgrounds a comfortable atmosphere in which to increase and hone their research and analytical skills while further developing their cultural sensitivity.
Lab members are expected to be active participants in lab meetings and projects. Involvement in a CARES research project can provide opportunities for hands-on research experiences that may include training in various research practices, IRB correspondence, content analyses, data management and analysis, manuscript preparation, and
development of independent research projects. Lab members are expected to communicate with Dr. Kwan and other lab members on a regular basis to ensure the success of the lab and its projects.
