September

Week of 9/2:

  • 9/6: Cover your textbooks and have your policy sheets signed by yourself and your parents.

Week of 9/9:

  • 9/10: Read Chapters 3.2. Write out the Objectives and Terms, people, and places. Prepare for map quiz on the 13 colonies. You will be asked to mark them on a map.
  • 9/12: Read Chapters 3.2 and 3.3. Write out the Objectives and Terms, people, and places and define them. Answer question 1 at the end of section 3.2 (choose ONLY three terms/names from that list).

Week of 9/16:

  • 9/16: Read Chapters 3.4 and 4.1. Write out the Objectives and Terms, people, and places and define them.
  • 9/18: Re-read 4.1 and start tracking British taxes/acts and colonial responses. Read Chapter 4.2. Write out the Objectives and Terms, people, and places and define them.
  • 9/20: Read Chapters 4.3 and 4.4 and and prepare for Quiz on colonial reactions. You are asked to prepare five (5) British acts/laws. You are to define them. What were they? How were they enforced? You are then to describe colonial responses to these acts/laws. How did the colonists react?

Week of 9/23:

  • 9/24: Read Chapter 5.1 and write out the Objectives and Terms, people, and places and define them. Compare and contrast Common Sense and the Declaration of Independence worksheet that was handed out in class.
  • 9/26: EXTRA CREDIT (5 points): Please research a woman from the American Revolution (it can be someone we spoke about in class, but do NOT repeat my lecture back to me). They had to have either fought, aided, or supported the Revolutionary War effort. Please give me one page, typed, 12 point font, double spaced, and a bibliography in MLA format on where your sources are from. The bibliography should be on the the BACK of the page, it does not count as part of the one page research.

Week of 9/30:

  • 9/30: Prepare for test on chapters 2, 3, and 4.
  • 10/2: Re-read chapter 5.1 for next class.
  • 10/4: Complete test corrections. On a separate sheet of paper, write the correct answer and an explanation as to why that is the correct answer. You must cite your sources and where you found the correct answer either in your notes or the text. Complete handout (see below) on weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation.

October

Week of 10/7:

  • 10/8: Read Chapter 5.2 and write out objective and terms, people, and places. Be prepared for a discussion on the constitution. Bring your regents review book to class.
  • 10/11: Complete handout on anti-federalists v. federalists. See below. Please let me know if you cannot see the link.

Week of 10/15:

  • 10/15: Read chapter 5.3 and write out objectives and terms and people. Please bring pocket constitution to next class. Please also bring a copy of page 157 to class for an exercise on the Federalist Papers. If you did not complete the worksheet on federalists and anti-federalists bring it to next class.
  • 10/18: Read Chapter 6.1 and write out objectives and terms and people.

Week of 10/21:

  • 10/22: Prepare for test on the Constitution. Handout to be completed for 10/29.
  • 10/25: Test. Read Chapter 6.1 and write out objectives and terms and people.

Week of 10/28:

  • 10/29: N/A
  • 11/1: Read Chapter 6.2 and write out objectives and terms and people.

November

Week of 11/4:

  • 11/5: Read Chapter 6.3 and write out objectives, terms, people, and places. Define the terms. Complete the worksheet In Your Own Words. Also linked below.
  • 11/7: Read Chapter 6.4 and write out objectives, terms, people, and places. Define the terms. Finish the handout that was given out in class and answer the four questions.

Week of 11/12:

  • 11/13: Read Chapter 7.1 and write out objectives, terms, people, and places. Define the terms. Write an editorial for a Federalist (anti-Jefferson) newspaper stating your position on the Louisiana Purchase. Preston format. No less than 1 page typed.
  • 11/15: Complete cause and effect chart in your notebooks for the War of 1812.

Week of 11/18:

  • 11/19: Prepare for quest on Chapter 6. Re-read Chapter 7.1.
  • 11/21: Read Chapter 7.2 and WRITE out objectives, terms, people, and places. DEFINE the terms.

Week of 11/25:

  • 11/25: Read 7.3 and write out objectives, terms, people, and places. Define the terms. List the major details about the sectional differences between the North and the South that you read about in section 7.2. Answer questions 4 and 6.
  • 11.27: No homework assigned. Happy Thanksgiving.

December

Week of 12/2:

  • 12/3: Read 7.4 and 7.5 and write out objectives, terms, people, and places. Define the terms. Complete Quest corrections assigned last week. Rewrite the thematic essay that was given in class. This is due before 3:15PM on Monday, 12/9 in my mailbox.
  • 12/5: Take-home thematic essay (foreign policy) due Monday, 12/9. Read Chapter 8 and write out objectives, terms, people, and places. Define the terms.

Week of 12/9:

  • 12/16: Prepare for Quest on Chapters 7, 8 and 9. Here is almost every question relating to these 3 chapters from the last 10 years.
  • 12/18: Quest in second half of class. Complete worksheet on Antebellum Reforms. BRING this to class on Friday.
  • 12/20: No homework assigned. Happy holidays!

January

Week of 1/2:

  • 1/3: Read Chapter 10 and write out objectives, terms, people, and places. Define the terms. Complete reading on "Bleeding Kansas" and answer the accompanying questions.

Week of 1/6:

  • 1/7: Read 11.1 and 11.2 and write out objectives, terms, people, and places. Define the terms.
  • 1/8: Read 11.3 and 11.4 and write out objectives, terms, people, and places. Define the terms. Complete primary source reading of the Emancipation Proclamation and answer the questions.

Week of 1/13:

  • 1/13: Complete the questions at the end of this primary source reading on the Gettysburg Address.
  • 1/15: Come prepared with any questions you may have regarding the midterm.
  • 1/17: Study for the midterm! Email me with any questions you may have. Additional Midterm Study Guide with definitions and themes.

Week of 1/27:

  • 1/29: Read Chapters 12.1 and 12.2 and write out objectives, terms, people, and places. Define the terms.
  • 1/31: Read Chapters 12.3 and 13.1 and write out objectives, terms, people, and places. Define the terms. Complete the Reconstruction DBQ for homework. Answer all DBQ questions in complete sentences. Please outline the essay. Your outline should include:

Introduction: Your thesis statement

Body Paragraphs: Which documents you are referencing and outside information from your knowledge of US History to support your argument.

February

Week of 2/3:

  • 2/4: Read Chapter 13 and write out objectives, terms, people, and places. Define the terms.
    • Monopolies were outlawed in the late 19th century. Research a modern day monopoly, merger, or trust. What is the name of the parent company? What business are they in? Do YOU believe that this particular monopoly should be disbanded? Why or why not? (Typed, double spaced, 12 point font, Times New Roman)
  • 2/6: Prepare for test on chapters 12 and 13. Use your review books to study .

Week of 2/10

  • 2/10: Test on chapters 12 and 13.
  • 2/12: Read Chapter 14 and answer the focus questions on page 488 to be collected.
  • 2/14: Read Chapter 15 and reference Unit 3, section 3 in your Regents Review Book. Please prepare for a short free response on the chapter.

Week of 2/24:

  • 2/25: Read Chapter 16.1. Answer questions 4 and 6 on page 527 (to be collected). Bring your regents review book to class tomorrow. Test corrections due in my mailbox on Friday, 2/28.
  • 2/26: Test corrections due in my mailbox on Friday, 2/28. Complete DBQ in your regents review book (pages 126 - 134). All DBQ questions must be answered. For the essay itself, you should complete an outline.
  • Introduction: Thesis statement in your own words.

    • 2 documents (quote and cite your source)

March

Week of 3/2:

  • 3/2: Read pages 149 - 159 in your Regents Review Book and stop at "The United States and World War I". Answer questions 2 and 4 of the Analyzing Evidence questions on page 150 and the first set of Analyzing Documents questions on page 155. To be collected.
  • 3/4: Complete the chart on US acquisition of territories. You should use your regents review book to complete this chart. It will be collected.
  • 3/6: Read pages 137 - 141 in your regents review book. Write out key people and terms in notebook (to be checked). Extra Credit William Jennings Bryan on Imperialism.
