September

Week of 9/2:

  • 9/5: Read Chapter 1, answer questions 1, 2, and 3.

Week of 9/9:

  • 9/9: Write out Objectives and Terms, People, and Places for Chapter 1.2. Answer question 1 at the end of the section.
  • 9/11: Read Chapter 1.3 and 2.1 and write out Objectives and Terms, People, and Places.
  • 9/13: Prepare for Quest on Chapter 1. Read Chapter 2.2 and write out Objectives and Terms, People, and Places.

Week of 9/16:

  • 9/17: Read Chapters 2.3 and 2.4 and write out Objectives and Terms, People, and Places.
  • 9/19: Read Chapters 2.5 and 3.1 and write out Objectives and Terms, People, and Places. Write two (2) diary entries (about one to two paragraphs a piece) as one of the specified groups living in the Egyptian Empire (pharaoh/royal, high priest, artisan/merchant, slave). You may choose your own group. Describe what your daily life and happenings were like as your specific group (think of religion, art, ceremonies, death, new laws/new leaders, war, reading - when applicable)!

Week of 9/23:

  • 9/23: Prepare for a Quest on Chapter 2. Write out Objectives and Terms, People, and Places for Chapters 3.2 and 3.3. Watch this video on the Ramayana.
  • 9/25: Re-read Chapters 3.3 and tell me what this means “God is one, but wise people know it by many names” for next class.
  • 9/27: Prepare for a test on Chapters 1, 2, and 3.

EXTRA CREDIT (to be handed in before the test): Choose any aspect of Hinduism that we did not FULLY discuss in class. Write one page about your findings. On the back of the one page, please cite your sources (MLA format).

October

Week of 9/30:

  • 10/1: Test
  • 10/3: Complete worksheet posted in Handouts section below. You may write or type your responses to all questions on a separate sheet of paper. THEN, read Chapter 3.5 and write out objectives and terms, people, and places.

Week of 10/7:

  • 10/7: Watch the video on the Silk Road and write down three major themes from the video. To be collected. Also, now that we have concluded our discussions of Chapter 3, outline the major religions that we have covered (Confucianism, Daoism, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, and Jainism) and list the major beliefs of each. Please do this exercise IN your notebook. I will not collect this, but I will check next class.
  • 10/9: Read Chapter 4.1 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Prepare for Quest on Chapter 3.4 and 3.5 (China).
  • 10/10: Read Chapter 4.2 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Work on your Greek mythology dialogues over the weekend. We will have time at the beginning of class next week to finish them. Then we will present!

Week of 10/15

  • 10/17: Read 4.3 and 4.4 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook.

Week of 10/21:

  • 10/21: Read 4.5 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Read the handout below and complete the questions on a separate sheet of paper.
  • 10/23: Read 5.1 and and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.

Week of 10/28:

  • 10/28: Read 5.1 and write out objectives, terms, people and places.
  • 10/30: Read 5.2 and write out objectives, terms, people and places. Define the terms. Complete DBQ on Rome's Origins.

November

Week of 11/4:

  • 11/4: Read 5.3 and write out objectives, terms, people and places. Define the terms. Complete worksheet comparing and contrasting the Bill of Rights and the Twelve Tables. See unabridged versions below.
  • 11/6: Work on your projects!

Week of 11/12:

  • 11/12: Presentations.
  • 11/14: Presentations. Re-read Chapter 5.3 for next class.

Week of 11/18:

  • 11/18: Compare and contrast the cultural achievements of Rome and Greece.
  • 11/20: Read Chapter 5.4 and 5.5 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms. Answer questions 2, 3, 4, and 5 at the end of Chapter 5.4.
  • 11/22: Prepare for Quest on Chapter 5 in second half of class.

Week of 11/25:

  • 11/25: Quest on Chapter 5 HAS BEEN MOVED. No homework over the break. Happy Thanksgiving!

December

Week of 12/2:

  • 12/2: Complete the map (by Friday) that we started in class with the major civilizations and geographical features mentioned in section 6.1. Read 6.1 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms. Quest on Chapter 5 (Rome).
  • 12/4: Complete the map that we started in class with the major civilizations and geographical features mentioned in section 6.1.
  • 12/6: Read 6.2 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms. Chart IN YOUR NOTEBOOK, the similarities and differences between the Mayan and Aztec civilizations.
  • Extra Credit: Choose one (1) of these options and type any text: 1. Research a Mayan or Aztec god or goddess. Tell me about them and what YOU find most interesting. Cite your sources, put this in YOUR OWN WORDS, and draw a picture if you'd like. 2. Create your own god or goddess based on the Mayan or Aztec civilizations. Tell me what their powers are and draw a picture if you'd like.

Week of 12/9:

  • 12/10: Read 6.3 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.
    • Ted-Ed Inca Empire
    • For fun: Watch Emperor's New Groove and write down things in the movie that we may have discussed in class.
  • 12/12: What allowed the Spanish to conquer the Mesoamerican and South American empires and peoples? Cite evidence from the video Guns, Germs, and Steel and our class discussions to support your answer.

Week of 12/16:

  • 12/17: Prepare for Quest on Mesoamerica. Here is the map we were working on in class. Please bring this to class and we will work on it on Thursday.
  • 12/19: Quest. No homework assigned. Happy holidays!

January

Week of 1/2:

  • 1/2: Used completed chart to draft an outline for your thematic essay.

Week of 1/6:

  • 1/6: Have your drafts completed for the thematic essay for final drafts next class. If you need continued help with your thesis, please visit the English department's writing center before our next class.
  • 1/9: Bring DBQ packet to next class.
  • 1/10: Finish the DBQ packet if you have not done so already. Review the Midterm study guide and come prepared with questions for next class.

Week of 1/13:

  • 1/14: Bring your study guides to class.
  • 1/16: Study for the midterm! Email me with any questions you may have.

Week of 1/27:

  • 1/28: Read 7.1 and 7.2 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.
  • 1/30: Read 7.3 and 7.4 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Complete worksheet handed out in class.
    • EXTRA CREDIT: Define the terms. Research the social levels or classes in one European country during the feudal times, such as England, France, or Spain. Write one page (typed, 12 point font, Times New Roman) describing each level in that society, including members and their roles or jobs.

February

Week of 2/3:

  • 2/5: Please reread section 7.4. You should come prepared to answer questions on this section. Complete the Canterbury Tales reading on page 237 of your textbooks. This can be done in your notebook.
  • 2/7: Read chapter 8.1 answer questions 3, 5, and 6 in your notebook. Read Chapter 8.2 and answer question 2 to be collected.

Week of 2/10:

  • 2/10: Read chapters 8.3 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms. Finish the worksheet on the Magna Carta if you have no done so already.
  • 2/11: Read chapter 8.4 and prepare a recruitment poster for the crusades due after break!!
  • 2/13: Read chapter 8.5 and prepare a recruitment poster for the crusades due after break!!

Week of 2/24:

  • 2/24: Complete the Secondary Source Reading: Black Plague Impact reading.
  • 2/27: Study for test on Chapters 7 and 8.
  • 2/28: Test on Chapters 7 and 8. Read Chapter 9.1 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms. You should come prepared for a free response next class.

March

Week of 3/2:

  • 3/3: Read Chapter 9.2 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.
  • 3/5: Complete test corrections for Monday. You should tell me: 1. the correct answer; 2. why it is the correct answer; and 3. where you found this answer in your notes OR textbook. Read Chapter 9.3 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Complete the DBQ on page 301. For the "essay" question, you should write a paragraph (6 - 8 sentences).
