Homework Assignments

September

Week of 9/2:

  • 9/6: Read Chapter 1, Section 1: "Understanding Our Past". Write out the Objectives and Terms, People, and Places. Answer Question 1 at the end of the section.

Week of 9/9:

  • 9/10: Read Chapter 1, Section 2. Write out the Objectives and Terms, People, and Places.
  • 9/12: Read Chapter 1.3 and 2.1 and write out Objectives and Terms, People, and Places. Finish watching the Otzi documentary and write down 3 important themes from the video to be collected (2 sentences for each theme, no one words please!).

Week of 9/16:

  • 9/16: Prepare for Quiz on Chapter 1. Write out Objectives and Terms, People, and Places for Chapter 2.1 and 2.2.
  • 9/18: Read Chapters 2.3 and 2.4 and write out Objectives and Terms, People, and Places.
  • 9/20: Read Chapters 2.5 and 3.1 and write out Objectives and Terms, People, and Places. Write one (1) diary entry as one of the specified groups living in the Egyptian Empire (pharaoh/royal, high priest, artisan/merchant, slave). You may choose your own group. Describe what your daily life and happenings were like as your specific group (think of religion, art, ceremonies, death, new laws/new leaders, war, reading - when applicable). 2 paragraphs (5 to 6 sentences).

Week of 9/23:

  • 9/24: Prepare for a Quest on Chapter 2. Write out Objectives and Terms, People, and Places for Chapters 3.2 and 3.3.
  • 9/26: Read Chapters 3.4 and 3.5 and write out Objectives and Terms, People, and Places.

Week of 9/30:

  • 9/30: Prepare for a test on Chapters 1, 2, and 3 (minus 3.4 and 3.5).
  • 10/2: Test
  • 10/4: Complete test corrections. On a separate sheet of paper, write the correct answer and an explanation as to why that is the correct answer. You must cite your sources and where you found the correct answer either in your notes or the text. Complete handout listed below on a separate sheet of paper. To be collected.

October

Week of 10/7:

  • 10/8: Read chapter 3.5 and write out objectives and terms, people and places. Now that we have concluded our discussions of Chapter 3, outline the major religions that we have covered (Confucianism, Daoism, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, and Jainism) and list the major beliefs of each. Please do this exercise IN your notebook. I will not collect this, but I will check next class.
  • 10/9: Read Chapter 4.1 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook.
  • 10/10: Read Chapter 4.1 and 4.2 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Prepare for Quiz on China (3.4 and 3.5).

Week of 10/15

  • 10/15: Read Chapter 4.3 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook.
  • 10/18: Complete the DBQ on Athens and Sparta. See below.

Week of 10/21:

  • 10/22: Read 4.4 and 4.5 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms. Read the handout below and complete ONLY questions 1 & 2 on a separate sheet of paper.
  • 10/25: Read 5.1 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.

Week of 10/28:

  • 10/29: Read 5.1 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.
  • 11/1: Read 5.2 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook.

November

Week of 11/4:

  • 11/5: Read 5.2 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms. Compare and contrast the Laws of the Twelve Tablets and the US Bill of Rights (see versions linked below) and tell me 5 differences and 1 similarity.
  • 11/7: DO YOUR PROJECTS!

Week of 11/12:

  • 11/13: Presentations.
  • 11/15: Presentations. Re-read Chapter 5.3 for next class.

Week of 11/18:

  • 11/19: Compare and contrast the cultural achievements of Rome and Greece. This does not mean identify or list. You must look at them simultaneously and find 5 similarities and 3 differences.
  • 11/21: Read Chapter 5.4 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.
    • Block 6 Extra Credit: Write an eyewitness account as a Roman citizen during the Roman fire. Make sure to tell me which class you belong to. One page.

Week of 11/25:

  • 11/25: Answer questions 2, 3, and 5 at the end of section 5.4. Read 5.5 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.
  • 11/27: No homework assigned. Happy Thanksgiving!

December

Week of 12/2:

  • 12/3: Prepare for Quest on Rome.
  • 12/5: Quest on Rome. Read 6.1 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms. Complete map on the Americas. You map must include the places we discussed IN class as well as the location of the four early civilizations of Mesoamerica (Olmec, Inca, Maya, and Aztec). See textbook for more information.

Week of 12/9:

  • 12/9: Complete worksheet. Attached the short research assignment (question #3) to the back of the worksheet. It should be no more than one page or 6 to 8 sentences.
    • Extra Credit (Block 5) Due 12/16: Cite your sources, put this in YOUR OWN WORDS, and draw a picture if you'd like. Create your own god or goddess based on the Mayan or Aztec civilizations. Tell me what their powers are and draw a picture if you'd like.
  • 12/11: Read 6.2/6.3 write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.

Week of 12/16:

  • 12/16: Prepare for Quiz on Chapter 6 (Mesoamerica). Ted-Ed Inca Empire . Chapter 6 Notes.
  • 12/18: Quiz. Discussion of Chapter 6.3.
  • 12/20: No homework assigned. Happy holidays!

January

Week of 1/3:

  • 1/3: Complete outline for in-class essay.

Week of 1/6:

  • 1/7: Have your drafts completed for the thematic essay for final drafts next class. If you need continued help with your thesis, please visit the English department's writing center.
  • 1/8: Finish Part B of the DBQ packet if you have not done so already. Review the Midterm study guide and come prepared with questions for next class.

Week of 1/13:

  • 1/13: Bring your study guide to next class with any questions you may have.
  • 1/15: Please remember to bring in your finished DBQ packet if you haven't done so already.
  • 1/17: Study for the midterm! Email me with any questions you may have.

Week of 1/27:

  • 1/29: Read 7.1 and 7.2 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.

February

Week of 2/3:

  • 2/4: Read chapter 8.1 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.
    • Watch the video on the East and West Schism and answer this question: What are the major differences between East and West churches.
  • 2/6: Reread chapter 8.1 and prepare for a short response on the chapter. Read Chapter 8.2.

Week of 2/10:

Week of 2/24:

  • 2/25: Complete the illuminated passage or poem on the high middle ages.
    • Using our notes from today, write a passage or poem describing the high middle ages. Your passage can be about the Crusades, the Reconquista, the Inquisition, or cultural life (art, architecture, literature, school life). It should include a minimum of 3 facts about the subject you’ve chosen. Be as colorful and creative as possible!
  • 2/26: Study for test on Chapters 7 and 8. Chapter 8 notes.

March

Week of 3/2:

  • 3/2: Test on Chapters 7 and 8. Read Chapter 9.1 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms. You should come prepared for a free response next class.
  • 3/4: Read Chapter 9.2 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.
  • 3/6: Re-read Chapter 9.2 and answer questions 3, 4, and 5. Complete test corrections for Tuesday, 3/10. You should tell me: 1. the correct answer; 2. why it is the correct answer; and 3. where you found this answer in your notes OR textbook.

Week of 3/9:

  • 3/10: Read Chapter 9.3 and write objectives and terms, people, and places in your notebook. Define the terms.
