Physical therapists (PTs) are movement experts who improve quality of life through patient education, prescribed exercise, and hands-on care. PTs are trained to observe movement and identify movement impairments which are likely contributing to an injury and/or pain, and developing a plan of care to address to improve mobility, flexibility, strength and function to reduce the risk of injury and/or recover from injury.
PTs who specialize in sports medicine, orthopedics and pelvic health, receive years of advanced training in all types of musculoskeletal conditions. While hands-on treatment is often a big part of initial treatment, physical therapy is using advanced problem solving to determine a movement diagnosis and the best plan of care to return our patients to their recreational activities, work and improve their quality of life. The ultimate goal of PT is to teach people how to manage their condition independently so that they receive long-term health benefits and are no longer reliant on regular PT care.
No. Illinois allows direct access to physical therapy for examination and treatment. I am required to notify your health care practitioner within 5 business days after your first visit that you are receiving physical therapy treatment. This does not apply to physical therapy services related to fitness or wellness, unless the patient presents with an injury or illness. If you do not demonstrate measurable or functional improvement after 10 visits or 15 business days, whichever occurs first, or are returning for the same or similar condition after 30 days of discharge, you will be referred to your primary care physician.
As I see patients one-on-one, providing individualized treatment, I expect patients to make considerable improvement after the first few visits and be independent with their recovery plan on average 6-8 visits. If I determine that your condition warrants further examination or that physical therapy is not indicated, I will refer you to your primary care physician.
As a patient, you have the right to receive physical therapy at any place you choose, not just where your physician sends you. I pride myself in providing the highest quality of care, with a truly individualized approach and one on one treatment, with no techs or aides, to help you achieve your goals!
I accept cash, personal check, VISA, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, HSA and FSA cards. Payment is due at the time of service.
Yes.
Your initial evaluation will typically be 60 minutes, although it may be longer depending on your issues. We are partners in your care, so we will develop a plan of care together that works for you and your goals.
It depends! I will assess you as an individual to determine functional limitations and the contributing factors and we will work together to determine an appropriate plan of care to get you back to your activities! Factors which contribute to length of care include (but are not limited to) : type of injury, length of symptoms, response to manual treatment techniques and your compliance to your recovery plan. Often I will initially recommend 2 visits a week for the first week or two to ensure proper form with mobility and strength exercises when performed at home. My ultimate goal is to provide you with the education and “tricks” for you to self-manage and progress through your activities!
If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please provide 24 hours notice. When you schedule an appointment with me you are making a commitment to your health and I am making a commitment to dedicate time especially for you. Please note any cancellation with less than 24 hours notice will result in an $85 late cancellation fee.
If you repeatedly cancel or reschedule your appointments with less than 24 hours notice, I may terminate our agreement. I am dedicated to helping you get back to your activities and live your best life and I need the same dedication from you!
COVID-19 UPDATE - I am currently waiving late fees for any in-person visits if you are feeling unwell or are concerned about being exposed to the virus.
You can book a Wellness visit from anywhere. But I cannot provide physical therapy diagnosis or treatment outside of Illinois. In a Wellness visit, I can assess your movement patterns to determine limitations and provide recommendations of mobility and strength exercises to perform to reduce your risk of injury or make sure you are not predisposed to an overuse injury.
My practice act requires me to be licensed in the state that YOU are in to provide Physical Therapy services. I am currently licensed in Illinois. This means that in order for me to see you for a Video Visit you must be in Illinois at the time of the visit.
A computer, tablet or phone and a stable internet connection. No other streaming (of netflix, spotify, etc.) to ensure we have the clearest connection. Shorts, tank, sports bra (if applicable) so I can see your feet, knees low back and shoulders. Access to a chair, wall, pillow, step/stair would be great but we can always “find” those if needed.
Nope! While some equipment or treatment tools may be helpful, we will get as creative as we have to do what we need!
I use Training Peaks to deliver workouts, which you can access online or via the Training Peaks app. Your workouts will be provided on a weekly basis. You are expected to provide any commitments (i.e. days you are limited in your training, do not have access to pool, etc.) so I can properly plan your training week. You will receive an email each evening for the next days workout.
Most communication will occur via email, based on your subjective and objective data loaded into Training Peaks after completion of workout. If there are other problems, issues, we will definitely jump on a call to discuss!
Training nutrition guidance will be provided. As every athlete is different, it is impossible to create one training nutrition program that works for all. I start with what training nutrition you have currently been using, and we monitor and tweak as workouts progress to determine the best course of action for your training and racing.
Note: this does not include daily nutrition advice, besides recommendations to get in calories, etc. If you would like more focus on finding nutritional strategies, day to day and sport specific, especially for women, please join the health coaching program (XX% discount if you are coached athlete).
Workouts are delivered through a training app called TrueCoach. You will receive access to the app upon signing up for the program. You can mark your workouts as complete, upload progress photos and metrics to the software.
If you purchase the PLUS program, you will receive feedback from your coach and will have 24/7 access to your coach/physical therapist for form feedback, modifications if needed.
There will be modifications noted in the program if you are experiencing issues (as well as through the self-assessment). Try those and see if that changes any discomfort. If you continue to have pain or want to be assessed by a physical therapist to nip the issue in the bud, contact me to schedule an appointment (in-person or virtual)!
I would love to work with your team! Contact me to discuss options and find the most effective way to work with your team.
