People have been using PowerPoint for decades. It's a great, multipurpose tool. Slides is the Google equivalent of PowerPoint, but with some interesting and powerful features. You can install add-ons from the Chrome Web Store to increase functionality in many ways. You can use the Explore tool to find and insert pretty much anything from the Internet which does not infringe on copyright. There are so many other cool things you can do with Slides. Using technology doesn't have to be technical and challenging. Think simple and you can create lesson activities which are good for your students, but also very good for you!

One simple, non-techy idea for people who already know how to use the basic functions of Slides - create a Digital Worksheet file which all students can access and work on by themselves at any time and any place. Perfect for homework. But how?

Follow these 5 steps*:

Open a new Slide deck and make your student worksheet on Slide One. If necessary, add activity instructions in the speaker notes and add any further reading resources on another slide(s).
Duplicate the student worksheet slide so there is one slide for every student in your class (e.g. 30 students = 30 duplicated slides).
Assign each student a number (1-30). Make sure they know their slide number. (Once trained with a slide number, students will be able to use this system for multiple tasks throughout the year).
Demonstrate for the whole class the process of opening the sldie deck and finding the slides in the slide deck by looking for the correct numbered slide in the sidebar. Highlight where to find any reference slide resources - added at the end of the slide deck.
Share the Slide deck with all students. Make sure it is shared with students as EDITORS. Students complete in class or as homework.

*Students do need to be already trained in using Slides and they do need to be aware that Slides have Version Histories. Understanding that Version Histories can show the teacher the exact who/what/when of any edit to the slide deck should mean students work responsibly within the slide deck.
