New Assignment View
Will Become the Only View
D2L currently allows instructors to choose between the Original or New Assignment Editor. The option you choose for the Assignment Editor also extends to the D2L Assignment Grading area. Instructors who select the Original Editor (with the tabs) have a similar view in the grading area, while instructors who select the New Editor (with the boxes) have a similar view in the grading area.
In late August 2021, the New Grading view will become the only view. Instructors will no longer have the option to change the grading view back to the original version. Then, in December 2021, the New Assignment Editor will become the only option for creating and editing assignments.
This page provides information about the new grading view. Information about the New Assignment Editor and other D2L Assignment material can be found on these pages:
New Assignment Grading View
The New Assignment Grader is not significantly different from the original one. The grading tools are the same; only the appearance is different.
Assignment Submissions
The Assignment Submissions page looks the same. Instructors can see the student's name, the attached document, information from Turnitin, and the submission date and time. Click on the student's name, the title of the attached document, the Turnitin Grademark, or the Evaluate link (not shown here) to grade the assignment.
The New Grading Area
Evaluation tools in the new grading area are the same as before. Here is an overview of the grading tools:
The student's name appears on the top left.
Click the drop-down box to view a different document the student has selected. (This is available only when the student has submitted more than one document.)
The student's document appears in the preview screen. Use the commenting tools (in the black toolbar) to draw or insert comments.
Use the download button (in the black toolbar) to download the student's document and view it on a PDF reader, Word, or another program.
The grading rubric (if linked) appears on the right. Click on the rubric to use it.
A box for the score appears below the rubric. Type a score, or use the grading rubric to generate a score.
Use the Feedback box to provide overall comments about the assignment. Due to limited space, consider providing detailed feedback through the grading rubric or through an attachment instead of in this box. (Notice that the Feedback box uses the New Rich Text Editor.)
Use the buttons below the Feedback box to attach documents or provide video feedback.
Grading Rubric
The grading rubric (if available for the assignment) has a different appearance.
The main differences are that:
The rubric expands down the page instead of opening up in a separate window.
Levels use a sliding scale, and descriptions for each level appear below the sliding scale as a different level is selected.
Instructors will need to click a link to "Add Feedback" - previously there was a blank box on the right.
Instructors can still view the full rubric and click on a box by clicking the "expand rubric" icon above the link for the rubric. In the full rubric view, descriptions for each level appear in the box (as before), but the box for feedback now appears as a link below the criteria instead of as a separate box on the right.
