Dance at Franklin teaches ballet, tap, modern, jazz, musical theater, improvisation and composition from beginning to advanced levels. Lead by Director Sonia Kellermann, Dance at Franklin regularly commissions guest artists to introduce students to new styles of dance and choreography. Working with local schools and companies, such as NW Dance Project, has allowed the program to present a wide range of work.
A performance of dance technique in multiple styles, strength routines, flexibility and spatial awareness exercises as well as excerpts of repertory and choreography in progress.
An interdisciplinary showcase of the talent of our student body – including music, dance, theater, poetry, and the fine and visual arts. This performance serves as a 'capstone project' to demonstrate the technical skills and performance abilities you'll learn during the year.
More advanced dancers may audition for and commit to attending rigorous weekend rehearsals. Company members get to work with professional dancers to create more difficult and daring routines for Arts Alive.
Each year, NW Dance Project company artists participate in a contemporary partnering and choreographic workshop with Dance at Franklin students. This opportunity allows students to learn new techniques and be challenged by professional dancers.
