Mr. Mead is originally from Nebrask where he learned he had passion for working with youth through day camps during the hot midwest summers. He moved to the Portland area in the early 2000's to work as an Americorps member serving students and families working to achieve success in higher education through the I Have a Dream Foundation-Oregon. He fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and made Portland his home.
Mr. Mead has been working for over 20 years in schools in many different ways. He has served as a SUN coordinator in North Clackamas, Gresham Barlow, and David Douglas school districts. He earned his Bachelors of Science in History from Portland State University before returning to graduate school to earn a Masters in Teaching Social Studies from Lewis and Clark College.
Mr. Mead has been working at RGMS since 2013 and has loved being a part of this community. For the last 10 years he has taught Social Studies to to RGMS students and has recently taken a new role as School Climate Specialist. In this position, he works to provide students with opportunities to take on leadership roles in our community, working to make RGMS the best middle school it can be. He teaches a Student Leadership elective, as well as serves as the advisor to the RGMS Student Council. He believes that student voice is paramount to the success of our school community and works diligently to make sure students have every opportuntity to lead their peers and teachers towards the future.
When Mr. Mead is not at RGMS he loves spending time with his family outdoors camping and enjoying some time on the water, playing disc golf, and hiking the PNW trails. He is an active musician who plays guitar and sings lead vocals in a few bands that play regularly in the Portland area.
