Summer Band & Music Opportunities
Below is a list of summer music programs that are options for students to continue their musical studies during the summer. Many of these camps have registration/application deadlines in the first few months of the year. Each camp has different approaches, tuition rates, etc., so interested students are encouraged to explore the website of each opportunity and, if necessary, contact camp staff for more information before registering.

FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL BAND CAMP- August 18th-19th
Come join us for our annual summer band camp! Earn mentorship hours as a high school mentor while working along side our middle school feeder programs. The Franklin Band Camp is an opportunity to strengthen musical skills and our music community. The cost for the week camp is $100. We will also be providing snacks each day.

“The Central Oregon Concert Band Camp (COCBC) is held July 31-August 4 at Redmond High School, Redmond, Oregon. The Central Oregon Concert Band Camp is designed to give creative middle school and younger high school students an opportunity to develop and refine their musicianship through a fun and comprehensive band camp. Students receive master classes on their instrument, sectionals, jazz band, and concert band full ensemble experiences.”

“East Winds Band Camp is the premiere day band camp in the Metro area and has been offering rewarding, inspiring musical experiences to young musicians for over 10 years. Rehearsals are directed by top band directors from middle schools and high schools in Northwest Oregon. Rehearsals run from 9 am to 4 pm with several break-out sessions for focused instrument sectionals, jazz or chamber ensembles, and World Music.”

“The Portland Summer Percussion Academy (PSPA) began in 2013 as a summer camp where high school percussionists could work closely and directly with professionals in an intensive, but fun, one-week experience. The PSPA is a program of the Portland State University School of Music & Theater co-directed by Brett Paschal and Chris Whyte, and features a collaboration with the Portland Percussion Group and world-class percussionists from around the United States.”

“The Academy provides an immersive learning environment where participants will improve their solo and ensemble performance skills, focusing on intonation, technique, tone quality, and musicianship. Participants will be involved in a large brass ensemble, mixed brass ensemble, and like ensembles, preparing a variety of fun and challenging brass literature, culminating with a final Saturday afternoon showcase concert.”

The Western International Band Clinic (WIBC) is a fantastic regional honor band opportunity for high school band students. Participating students travel to Seattle, WA for a 3-day intensive program including concerts, rehearsals with nationally recognized conductors and composers, leadership workshops, and a concluding gala performance.
Auditions are typically due the last week of September. Audition materials and information for the upcoming opportunity will be available via the links below sometime in the Spring.
All-Northwest happens every other year. When the event is upcoming, visit the link to find audition information. Generally speaking, All-NW auditions are managed by WMEA which is the Washington Music Education Association. The honor ensembles are open to students in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming.
