Being a human can be tough sometimes. Sometimes we have so much anger and don't know what to do with it. Maybe we find ourselves getting into fights a lot. Perhaps we have a hard time letting someone know what it is that we really want. Counselors are here to help with these very real moments we ALL can experience simply because...we're human!
Skills groups are a great way for counselors to work with students who share similar struggles. Whether it's being a better friend, how to deal with our worries, or even finding a healthier way to look at our bodies. These groups can be informed by the Tier 1 Counseling lessons where perhaps a student needs a little more support in understanding the skills. Other times, these groups will be requested by teachers or family members who feel that their students could benefit from more support.
If you feel that your child will benefit from a skills group, please reach out to your grade-level school counselor!
Every other week, Ms. Aud holds small groups in each class. These groups are not fixed, and are responsive to the needs that either teachers or parent/guardians see students needing support with. This could include, navigating friendships, social skills, building kindness, focusing, coping skills, disrupting bullying, and building on the skills learned in my counseling lessons. Your child may be in a group with me at any time, if they happen to be, please encourage them to talk about what they've learned! One of our counseling goals this year is to increase students' sense of belonging, so every group is designed to help students feel more connected and part of building a safer, kinder, and more inclusive school community.
