Individual counseling is a great option for students who are experiencing signs of mental health distress. Usually this is a good first step before reaching out to a mental health therapist in the community. A school counselor often provides brief solution-focused counseling for a few weeks (each session no longer than 25 minutes), and if more therapeutic support is needed, a referral can be made to outside mental health services.
