AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID's goal is to prepare students in the academic middle for four-year college eligibility.
It has a proven track record in bringing out the best in students and closing the achievement gap. In addition to enrolling in the AVID elective course, students also take some of our school's toughest classes, such as honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, to challenge themselves and prepare for the rigor of a college education.
AVID targets students in the academic middle who have the desire to go to college and the determination to work hard. These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but are falling short of their potential.
Typically, AVID students are:
First generation--first in the families to attend college, or
Come from low income backgrounds, or
Underrepresented in higher education, or
Have extenuating circumstances in their family or personal lives that necessitate their need for academic and college readiness support.
