Disruption vs. Redesigning
Interviewing Rob Riodan and Kelly Wilson
Rob Riordan & Kelly Wilson, cofounder and Dean of High Tech High K-12 schools.
I am undone and put back together all at once with such big thinkers and custodians of wonder and emissaries of love in this program. Here are some brilliant notes and quotes from Rob & Kelly from the Graduate School of Education Education Leadership program I am in:
Learning should be about curiosity, inquiry & how you see yourself in the world.
Disruption is about social relations of schooling. Disrupt assumptions of what school is, who teachers, kids & administrators are. Puncture assumptions about heirarchy & roles.
Reform efforts teach teachers to be more efficient, how to give better assessments, measure how much learning loss learners have experienced. We need to disrupt all of that. We are puncturing the structures we are in as we examine the influence they are having on us.
Change the subject. Learn to see our disciplines not as only learning content but powerful lenses to understand the world.
Do students have a sense of belonging? Is their own experience used as text and honored? Are they thriving and how do they get to show off their strengths? Are we aware of who’s talking and who’s not talking?
If we see status issues we interrupt those! How are we distending in all those micro moments in addition to designing projects?
How are you heightening justice?
You belong here.
