The PAHS Swimming & Diving team philosophy is pure and simple, our aim is to provide a safe, effective and supportive environment to help aid student-athletes become successful swimmers and divers. Swimming and Diving is an individual sport where a team score is kept; therefore, we embrace the commitment to team values which include unselfishness and encouragement of teammates. We realize that athletes have a full spectrum of athletic abilities and all students are welcomed regardless of ability or level of competitiveness. We encourage development of strong work habits and focus on individual and team goals, this can only be achieved by a commitment to proper training, good nutrition, and rest. Our student-athletes are expected to attend all scheduled practices, however when a scheduling conflict occurs, other arrangements can be made with the coaching staff. Practices can be made up during the week at optional workouts either before school or in the evenings after practice. There are many paths to get to the top of the mountain; we intend to take the path that leads straight up the hill. It is the most direct path and often times the most difficult. Many life lessons can be learned through this approach. Our team is an extension of the classroom and we hope to prepare our athletes for the challenges that await them in the world outside of the pool. We grade our successes through competition both against our opponents as well as competitions deep within ourselves. Our greatest victory ultimately will be achieving victory over human nature. Human nature is such that humans normally take the path of least resistance and avoid challenges of life. Winning, therefore isn't normal behavior. We dare to be different than the throng of "normal" students, we dare to become WINNERS.
