American Red Cross Life Guarding Certification

The Pottsville Area School District is an Authorized Provider of American Red Cross Life Guarding courses. Courses are held in the spring after the conclusion of swimming lessons. Participants must be at least 15 years of age by the completion of the course. Cost of the class is $150.00 for initial certification and $50.00 for recertification.

1. Swim 300 yards continuously

2. Swim 20 yards, retrieve a brick from the bottom of the pool and return the brick to the starting point (1 minute & 40 second limit)

3. Tread water for 2 minutes with your hands out of the water.
