Who was William Whitehead Rupert?

William Whitehead Rupert was the son of George Rupert and his wife Anna M. Durnell. He was born 29 October 1852 in Upper Oxford Township. He was probably named for William M. Whitehead, who was the minister at Beulah from October 1850 until April 1852.

In the 1860's he was the head teacher at the Parkesburg Academy in Chester County. After coming to Pottstown, he married Clara S . Miller.

In 1888, Professor W.W. Rupert became the first Pottstown Borough Superintendent of School after having served as its High School principal. He served as Superintendent until his retirement in 1922. During his thirty-four years in this position, Professor Rupert was highly respected for his work in education. He organized the Pottstown schools and worked to introduce the latest methods and ideas.
