E Panel

The E Panel features Mrs. Mann, a respected teacher at Rupert Elementary for over 20 years.
Mrs. Mann was a trailblazer, and a wonderful role model and educator.
This panel also displays a t-shirt and newsletter from the past.
The books are symbolic of the importance of reading and our excellent school library.

Who was Gertrude Mann?

Gertrude Mann was the daughter of the late Ruby Suber Tobias and June Tobias Sr. Gertrude was raised in South Carolina and graduated from Drayton High School in Newberry, S.C., with the class of 1951.

She later attended and graduated from Allen University in 1955 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and completed additional studies at Penn State University and Lehigh University.

She taught elementary school for 12 years in Newport News, Va., at Booker T. Washington and more than 22 years at Rupert Elementary School in the Pottstown School District, retiring in 1990 and was twice awarded teacher of the year in Pottstown.
