Choice #1: I am a performer
Share your work this week of this 2-week activity.
Choice #1: Perform: Anchors Aweigh, or You're A Grand Old Flag, or Yankee Doodle. Week 2: Rehearse, Evaluate & Refine: How do musicians improve the quality of their performance? Present: When is a performance judged ready to present? You did not need to complete a Practice Plan or Rehearsal Reflection, but do think like a musician and think of how you solved fingerings or rhythm challenges. Record your performance in a video, See Saw, or audio recording.
Choice #2: I am a composer
How can you create a song to document this event in world history or the feelings you are experiencing? Week 2: Evaluate & Refine: How do musicians improve the quality of their creative work? Present: When is creative work ready to share? Share a video of your song, or “turn in” your written work Google Doc. If you composed just to express yourself, and want to keep your song personal, that is ok! Instead, send a Google Classroom email reflection of what was easy/ what was challenging about composing.

Week 8 Distance Learning
Choice #1: I am a performer
This is a 2-week activity. Only submit your choice to your teacher, you do not need to share a product this week.
Choice #1: Perform: Anchors Aweigh, or You're A Grand Old Flag, or Yankee Doodle (this link allows you to perform with an accompaniment. Slow down the accompaniment to a speed that you are comfortable with). This is a two week activity: Select: Week 1: How do performers select repertoire? Analyze: How does understanding the notes and rhythms of musical works inform performance? You do not need to complete a Practice Plan or Rehearsal Reflection, but do think like a musician and think of strategies for practicing your selection.
Choice #2: I am a composer.
How can you create a song to document this event in world history or the feelings you are experiencing? This is a two week activity. Week 1: Imagine: How do musicians generate creative ideas? Plan & Make: How do musicians make creative decisions? You do not need to share any work this week, but if you would like feedback before the second week, share your draft with your teacher.

Compose your own 4-measure Light Blade Rhythms to accompany theImperial March. See this week's video message for rhythm review. Check your work that the rhythms equal 4-beats per measure. Photograph your composition and attach to Google Music Classroom assignment or post in See Saw.

May the 4th be with you
Choose either Stars Wars Theme or Yoda's Theme to learn on the recorder. See this week's video message in your Google Music Classroom to help you with the F natural and F sharp fingerings. Use the Practice Plan to think like a musician to guide your choice and the steps you will take to learn the music. Video your performance in your SeeSaw portfolio and press "turn in" in your Google Classroom when completed. No recorder, then write in the note names under the notes on the staff and show the fingerings using a pencil.

Choice #2: hand beat-pattern performance
Watch the 5-minute "The Sevens" How-To video by University of Rhode Island professor Dr. Audrey Cardany. This game can be extended to any duple meter song of your choice. Make a FlipGrid video to share your performance with others! Find the link for the FlipGrid prompt in your Google Music Classroom.

Watch 10-minute song Polish the Stars to sing, listen, analyze musical form and practice body percussion with Dr. Audrey Cardany, URI. Can you use this Shel Silverstein poem as inspiration to do a Good Deed for someone in your home?

Choose 2 Brain Pop music topics of your choice.
Find the Hathaway School username and password in your Google Music Classroom.
April 13: Grade 5 Music Elective Selections are due today. Sit down with a parent and use the link in your Google Music Classroom and press "turn-in" after your submit your choice.

View PHS Senior Miss Rylee's Senior Project Presentation before 3:00 on 4/7/2020. Join the Google Meeting at 3:00. Find all videos and links posted in your Google Music Classroom. Press "turn in" after viewing my 3-minute video message and Rylee's 15-minute screencast presentation to get credit for this week's assignment.
**After viewing Rylee's presentation, you will find the Google Form to sign-up for your music elective in your Google Music Classroom. Sit down with a parent to complete your selection. Press "turn-in" when submitted. Form is due Monday, April 13.
Week 2
Continue to reflect upon your middle school music elective. This will be the final week. Go to your google classroom for the announcement with the class slides and these links. Press "turn in" after viewing to receive credit for this week's activity. To help you research the sound of the flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and mallet percussion, explore these apps or websites:
Sketch-A-Song This app allows you to experiment with composing music and selecting instrument sounds from all 4 families.
Band Blast This app allows you to practice reading rhythms with different instrument sounds.
Rata Tap Drums This app allows you to pretend you are playing the drum set. Get creative improvising rhythm patterns!
DSO Kids The Dallas Symphony Orchestra website provides audio examples of each instrument of the orchestra.
Classics for Kids This PBS website provides audio examples of instruments and families.
