Special Education Summer Programs: Extended School Year (ESY) and Compensatory

  • PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Portland Public Schools will be offering Extended School Year (ESY and compensatory programming (CP). The exact times and dates of programs is still to be determined. Students will be notified by their schools or at their IEP meetings. This program is by invitation only.

English Language Learner Summer Academy

DATES/TIMES: July 5-28 Monday to Thursday, 4 hours a day. Exact Time TBD

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Middle School rising 6th graders and rising 9th graders will be offered programming in academic and social skills to prepare students for transition to middle or high school. High school rising 9th graders who are Intensive English Language Learners will benefit from building academic language to accelerate English language development.

WE RISE (AFFINITY GROUP PROGRAM)

SCHEDULE: June 27-July 1 10:00 am - 2:00 pm Wednesday (all day Field Trip)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This summer program will focus on leadership & identity development for rising 9th-12th graders. Team building and social emotional learning support will be part of the core offering. The sessions will be organized by affinity groups (Asian, Black/Af-Am, Indigenous, Latinx, White, and LGBT) and intersectional activities will be structured each day. The program will run for a week with a field trip to the Boston area for college visits and museum or historical tours. In August, just before school opens, the affinity groups will gather together to get the students mentally and emotionally ready for in-person school. Program has limited seats: up to 16 students/group. Max capacity is 96.
