Port Ahuriri School
Remote Learning

Kia ora whanau and welcome to the Port Ahuriri School Remote Learning website.

Welcome to Term 2 of learning at Port Ahuriri School. As we embark on this journey of remote learning our main message to you is that we want to stay connected with you, so please do that in whichever way you can (seesaw, email, phone calls etc). If at anytime this learning journey feels overwhelming, please reach out as we have plenty of support available. We are aware families are managing this difficult time in different ways. We are here to help you continue your child’s learning.

This website has been created to support students learning from home. Each hub has its own page which has information that will be updated weekly. You can navigate through the website using the tabs on the left hand side. Click on the arrows to view the weekly modules of work.

Each day your teacher will post a morning message on seesaw at the beginning of the day with any learning they would like your child to do during the day. Once you have completed this task, if you would like extra work to complete then you can find it here on this website. If you have any questions about these tasks please email your child’s teacher. It is not expected for your child to ‘work’ for the whole day or for their parents to ‘teach’. We simply expect you to do the best you can with the circumstances you have. They may need a little help from you to get started however the work is designed to allow for independent learning (dependent on their age/ability). There will be a mix of activities that use devices and some that are device free so you can chose the ones that suit you.

We have adjusted the Seesaw settings so that any post that your child has put on their Seesaw page will be able to be seen by all their classmates. This is to replicate a classroom setting where we would usually share our learning and give feedback to each other. Please encourage your child to interact with their class mates by putting a comment and/or liking their post. All comments will be approved by the teacher first.

We are also wanting to check in with our children via online video conferencing (ZOOM). Please check your seesaw for invitations to these meetings. These meetings will take a maximum of 30 minutes a few times a week. They are an opportunity for your child to connect with their teacher and classmates for a short time in the day. Parents are welcome to be involved in these meeting too.

The staff thank you for your support during this time of uncertainty. Look after yourselves and please if at anytime you feel overwhelmed in supporting your child with their learning feel free to reach out for extra support. Let's embrace this new learning journey together.

He waka eke noa: We are all in this together, we've got this!

Kia Kaha,

The team at Port Ahuriri School
