Programs/Interventions

Reading:

  • Phonics for Reading: This is a supplementary phonics program designed to teach decoding of new sounds and combinations in a very specific order to students who have not yet mastered those sounds. Activities include word/sound recognition, oral blending/segmenting of words, passage reading, spelling, and independent activities.

  • Decoding:This program is a component of the Corrective Reading Program. Students will read words in isolation and then in a context. They will practice reading words and then apply that new knowledge in a text passage. They will also work on comprehension items after reading a passage. We use Decoding with grades 3-5.

  • Reading Mastery: This is a program that focuses on teaching students reading to learn. The program focuses on developing a large reading vocabulary, working on decoding skills, and a solid understanding of word meanings. This program incorporates both fictional and non-fiction texts into the lessons. We use Reading Mastery with grades 4 and 5.

  • Road to the Code: This is a program that focuses heavily on phonemic awareness, or the ability to hear and identify sounds in words. The program works to teach students to recognize initial sounds, rhymes, and eventually corresponding certain sounds to specific letters. We use Road to the Code with Kindergarten students.

  • Teacher Directed Pals: PALS (Paths to Achieving Literacy Success) is a program designed for beginning readers. The program teaches phonemic awareness (hearing/identifying individual sounds), letter-sound recognition, and decoding. We use Teacher Directed PALS with Kindergarten and 1st grade students.

  • Sound Partners: This program is typically used with our Kindergarten and 1st grade students who need a systematic approach for beginning phonics instruction. This program carefully teaches letter sounds, vowel combinations and other blends and digraphs to help readers decode new words. The program also utilizes spelling and writing to reinforce these ideas.

  • Journey's Intervention Tab: This is a program that comes as part of the reading curriculum used in the classroom. It is a separate intervention piece that targets the key vocabulary for the week along with the grammar and phonics lessons. Each week has a different story and asks various comprehension questions. This is used with select students in grades K-5.

Math:

  • STAMS- This program aligns directly to the common core and each lesson is comprised of five pieces, with each piece offering more independence for the students to show mastery. We use this program with our 2nd through 5th graders at this time.

  • Connecting Math Concepts: This program combines facts, procedures, conceptual understanding, applications, and problem solving skills to provide a comprehensive curriculum for students. Students learn to understand math by making connections among related math topics, procedures, and knowledge. We use Connecting Math Concepts with all grade levels. This program is linked to the Common Core Math Standards.

  • Number Worlds: This is a program with interactive games, embedded activities, digital resources, and project-based learning. It also includes formative assessments so that teaching is directly related to where students are in their current understanding. This program is linked to the Common Core Math Standards.

  • Ready Common Core: This program is used to help students become more familiar with the math from previous grade levels while using the Common Core language and strategies that is found in our math curriculum.

  • Rocket Math: Rocket math is a program that is typically used with our 3rd through 5th graders and it targets math fact fluency. We use this program to help our students with their multiplication facts. Usually, this program is used in combination with one of the above programs as it is a short routine that can be completed in under 5 minutes.

Language:

  • Language for Learning: This is a program that focuses on teaching students basic oral language skills and vocabulary. The goal is that students will be able to understand oral instructions. Students need to understand verbal directions and language used by peers and classroom teachers in order to be successful in the classroom when reading texts. We use Language for Learning with our preschool students and students who are ELL (English Language Learners).

  • Language for Thinking: This is a direct instruction program that works to increase students’ abilities to understand oral language as well as written language. The program emphasizes questions, directions, logic and vocabulary. The link between oral comprehension and reading comprehension is quite important, so students need to have successful oral language thinking skills to be proficient at reading comprehension. We use Language for Thinking for grades 1 and 2.
