legacy: noun; anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor
For our final extension project of the school year, writers at The Portage Current were asked to write an essay that recounted their middle school years and stood as a farewell to this crucial chapter of their lives. In the essays linked below, students share the highlights, the lowlights, the heartbreaks, and the breakthroughs of the past three years all while reflecting on the lessons they learned on the way, both in and out of the classroom.
As their teacher/advisor, it's been truly inspiring to see students take writing on this very introspective topic so seriously. While these students will be headed off to high school in the fall, their legacies at Bartels Middle School and as the first generation of Portage Current writers will remain for years to come.
Enjoy!
