This area has been identified as an area to grow in due to the increased call for multicultural literacy and support in the classrooms as they transition to the Units of Study program. This is a district initiative that will lean heavily on the library spaces to provide a rich variety of multimodal literacy connections to enrich the student experience and promote literacy as a life-long cornerstone as it has always been.
Since our library collections were not built with these new initiatives in mind, we will need to work hard on collection development. We will focus on purchasing materials that support the projects in the Units of Study program, and on materials that support multicultural literacy. We will work with classroom teachers to collaborate on these projects, and support the work that we are doing on a building and district level.
We are continuously learning from professional development workshops, resources, and publications. Each of these opportunities introduces new potential ventures to support student literacies.
