**More Fun**

Here are some more fun sites to check out when you have extra time at the end of class or are bored during study hall or at home. Some of these may even be used in class.

Games

  • Geoguessr - This site uses Google Maps to quiz you on locations using context clues. Choose specific countries, continents, cities, and other categories. You get more points the closer you are to the correct location.
  • Scribble States - This is a game that makes you draw the outline of a state and guess which one it is. Make sure you turn the sound off.
  • Traveler IQ Challenge - This is a super addicting game. It is timed so you have to move fast. You get points the closer you are to the capital or landmark.
  • Place Spotting - This game is like the opposite of the previous. You are shown a close up on Google Earth and have to place it on the map, while being given a few clues.

Maps

  • Mapping America - This site from the NY Times takes census data from 2005-2009 and displays the distribution of racial and ethnic groups in the US, even down to the city. While the data is a little old, it is still interesting to see where certain races are clustered.
  • 40 Maps That Explain the World - This is a collection of interesting maps about religion, governments, and social issues around the world.
  • Our World in Data - This site shows the world in terms of different categories.
  • Langscape - This site shows a world map and the major languages in each region.
  • Global Trend Map - This site shows what the top global search terms are for each country in real time.

Google Earth

  • World Wonders - This site was developed by Google, showing several world wonders and landmarks. When you look at the map on the site, you can view historical photos, Street View, and a summary of its history.
  • Street View - This is yet another Google site, but this shows you a street view of historical landmarks, like the Colosseum, oceans, Taj Mahal, Grand Canyon, and the Eiffel Tower.

  • View Change - This site features short videos about progress made around the world. Examples include world hunger, digital divide, and sustainability.
  • Eat: The Story of Food - This site explains the history of food around the world. Click in different areas to understand all types of food.
