About us

Who we are

The Relational/Restorative Practice Community of Inquiry is a group of colleagues from Portsmouth Mediation Service, University of Portsmouth and Portsmouth City Council.

We share an interest in the theories that help us better understand and draw value from relationships, and how we research and evidence their value and the conditions that support them to thrive.

To extend our community and learn from others, we are holding 6 seminar workshops during 2023 and would like to invite anyone interested in joining our community. We are keen to welcome others to share experiences and to understand more about our challenges and unanswered questions, contributing to research development ideas and plans.

Portsmouth Mediation Service

Our trained mediators are able to quickly build a rapport with the individuals and parties concerned, encouraging them to talk about their concerns and engage in restorative dialogue.

We are driven by a desire to apply restorative solutions to avoid conflict and build long lasting relationships for the future.

University of Portsmouth

At the University of Portsmouth, we host many leading academics throughout our faculties and schools who support restorative and relational practices through their research.

Our academics' ground-breaking interdisciplinary research helps to create a positive pathway towards embedding restorative practices in our civic community.

Portsmouth City Council

Portsmouth City Council draws on the value offered by restorative practice, for example in education, social care, and housing services. Our Public Health team co-ordinate Portsmouth's Health and Wellbeing Strategy (2022-2030) with 'Positive Relationships' chosen as one of 5 core priorities.

Our involvement in this community of inquiry reflects a commitment to partnering with practitioners and academics to share insights and consolidate learning about the value offered by positive relationships and the conditions that support and enable them.
