Dear Families,
Please ask your child:
What do we celebrate in March? And why! (Women’s History Month).
To tell you one thing they learned about Mae Jemison and Ruby Bridges.
To tell you one thing they learned about inventors of color like Benjamin Banneker.
To tell you one thing they learned about Ramadan.
To tell you what it means to be kind.
To tell you ways that they can show kindness to their friends.
To tell you the rule for using “c” or “k” at the beginning of a word (K takes “i” and “e,” C takes the other three (vowels).
To tell you what the main idea of a story is (The main idea is the most important thing the story is about. It's like the big message or what the whole story is trying to tell us.)
To tell you how to retell a story using their fingers (The thumb represents the characters in the story, the index finger represents the setting, the middle finger represents the beginning of the story, the ring finger represents the middle of the story and the pinky finger represents the end of the story.)
To tell you the purpose of a “How To” book (to teach or show how to do something)
To tell you what their “How to” book is about
To compare two groups of objects and tell you how many more or fewer (try 1 or 2 more – add more objects if your child can identify higher than 2 more. Don’t forget to use the strategy of arranging by lining objects up to compare)
To tell you their rose, bud, and thorn for this week.
