This research highlights that research-based teaching-learning strategy as a motivation for the students in their classes. It has been showed that Students develop connections between the lesson and their conceptual knowledge, identify research subjects about it, assess diverse literature, write a proposal, and gather and analyze data to produce new knowledge using the teaching-learning technique with the research-based approach in physiology. It can also be observed that the students are not just mere observers and receivers of the knowledge but the producers through participating in thinking process and research to conclude the problems encountered in the field. In addition, using research-based teaching-learning method, students are noticeably motivated to perform tasks, and participate in proposing techniques required in certain activities and problems. Moreover, the method increases the collaboration and commitment of the students in performing academic tasks which can be seen in their collaborative tasks and group work sharing. In the end, the researcher suggests to actively engage students and enable them in constructing theoretical knowledge, as well as application in practical activities because these would lead them to be more active, creative, critical thinkers which are some of the benefits of the research-based method in teaching-learning.
GENERAL REFLECTION
The first domain of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) is very essential for every teacher. Through these guidelines, they could improve their Content knowledge and its application within and across curriculum areas; have a more meaningful classroom discussion through employing research-based approach on formulating knowledge and observing principles in teaching and learning. This domain also enables teachers to be more innovative and adaptive to changes that are happening in the 21st century education. They could be more knowledgeable on the ways to positively maximize the use of ICT in classroom, especially in the new normal education set up. Holistic professional development could be obtained in this because teachers can have a basis on how to employ effective and efficient strategies that would promote literacy and numeracy, as well as critical and creative thinking. Moreover, teachers could learn more strategies in managing the classroom through having an effective communication techniques that also promotes student's communication skills and language skills.
As pre-service teacher, I can say that this domain is really important for me because it equips me to be ready and competent enough as I become a professional teacher in the near future. It helps me to be critical in searching for my content and creative in delivering it in class so I can have a meaningful classroom discussion. It is also vital for me because it capacitates me to manage my classroom through employing innovative strategies fitted for this set up and kind of learners that I have, with consideration to the current modality in the new normal education. I believe that pre-service teachers must comply with these standards because these are the fundamentals that we should acquire which would make us competent in the teaching profession.
