We provide a bespoke Careers programme which is fully mapped to address the Gatsby Benchmarks, the national framework for ‘good careers provision’.
Careers Education is delivered to all our students in Personal Development lessons, in assemblies or workshops and through our Tutor Programme.
In Year 10 the focus is on Employability and Work Experience. All Year 10 students are required to complete a week of Work Experience during Challenge Week which takes place in the summer term. In Year 11, talks and workshops are designed to support our students in making their Post 16 decisions.
We have a dedicated Careers Centre where our full time Careers Advisor is based. We use an online computer package called UNIFROG to support our Careers programme. Our students have access to the Careers Centre at break and lunchtime for any careers research they wish to complete.
Every 2 years we run our hugely popular Careers Fair. All students from Years 8 to 13 visit the event which is attended by a large number of exhibitors including local FE colleges, Apprenticeship Providers, Universities and Employers. The Careers Fair is an interactive/hands-on event which gives our students the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at a range of employment activities.
In Year 10 students will attend a Careers Meeting with our Careers Advisor and they receive an individual follow-up meeting in Year 11. They can ask to book an additional meeting at anytime if needed.
We run a monthly “Careers Clinic” which has a different focus each time and welcomes different employers, colleges and universities. This takes place every first Tuesday of the month in the Library during lunchtime and is open to all years.
Subject departments also lead their own Careers enrichment activities e.g. Women in STEM (Science department) and Business and Entrepreneur talks (Business Studies).
Parents/carers are very welcome to contact the Careers Team should they have any questions or queries.
