All students entering tenth are required to read THREE books total. ONE of the three books, will be a specific title that your English teacher requires (see below). For their book selections, students can refer to the list of Faculty Recommendations for 9-12 (see below) . We ask that students read books that they have not previously read and that are age appropriate or above their reading level.
10th grade Academic students must read the following book to be included in their three total for the summer:
A Separate Peace by John Knowles
10th grade Honors students must read the following book to be included in their three total for the summer:
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne -also available as a downloadable eBook to your device
Please note - you no longer need to submit the Summer Reading Verification Form. Through the format of an in-class writing assignment, students will concisely write about their summer reading. You are more than welcome to use the books and/or notes you’ve taken that will aid you in your writing that day. Please be aware that this will happen during our second week of school (you will be told the exact date once school begins).
NOTE: Students may substitute a book of their choosing in place of ONE selection from the teacher recommended list IF they receive faculty approval. Requests for approval may be emailed to aeshelman@plumsteadchristian.org and must be done prior to August 1st.
Students may check-out the books throughout the summer Tuesday - Thursday, 9 am - 3 pm.
Students must sign in at the office before going to library.
Books must be checked out on "self check-out” list.
Please respect others ... return books in two weeks so another person can check out
