AP Euro Summer Reading
You will be reading 3 books this summer-
Machiavelli’s The Prince
As you read, compile a list of traits that make someone a Machiavellian. Compile a list of 10-15 clear cut ideas when you have finished reading. Make sure to note the page numbers where you found the ideas, that will be very helpful in the fall.
Voltaire’s Candide
As you read, take notes on these two aspects:
Create an outline/timeline of the journey that Candide takes, who he encounters
Create a list of what you think are the things that Voltaire is judging in this society (this book is written as a novel so that Voltaire would not get in trouble for the complaints he was making about the society that he lived in)
Wisel’s Night
As you read, make a list of what ideas about the Holocaust stand out to you. Notice particular experiences that stick with you, pay attention to the choice of words.
For each of the three books: Make sure to note the page numbers where you found the ideas, that will be very helpful to you when we review the books throughout the year.
Once our Google Classroom has been generated for the fall, I will make a spot for you to put all of this work. It will be due the day after Labor Day weekend. If you have questions please contact Mrs. Dollard at mdollard@plumsteadchristian.org.
