Do you need a letter of recommendation from NJ? Here are some tips:
Ask yourself these things to determine if NJ could write a good letter for you:
Did you hand in all your work on-time with great quality?
Did you participate in class and show initiative asking questions when things didn't make sense?
Did you take advantage of office hours to deepen your learning?
(If an online course) Did you show your video or a picture so that NJ had a face to attach to your name and remember you?
Did you generally never have your cellular phone out during class, texting etc. during time when you were meant to be in discussion or making use of class time to make progress and ask your questions?
NJ really values group work. When working in groups, did you listen to others' ideas, respectfully engage and use logical arguments instead of power or bullying to achieve your objective? Did you find ways to include others even if they weren't in the same place as you? Did you uphold your work-load and communicate well with your group?
Tip: If you ignored other voices, didn't include others, just did all the work yourself, or ditched your group without communicating with them, then NJ would likely not be a good choice for a letter writer.
Are there at least 4 weeks before your first letter is due?
Would you be willilng to waive the right to view NJ's letter? (As a general poilcy, NJ only writes letters if the candidate has waived the right to view the letter.)
Fill out this form: https://forms.gle/2nEkHhCYtnASkMc68 to give NJ the information she needs to write you a letter.
The form asks you to draft a letter for yourself, and this will be a sample of your writing. You should take several hours to write a good letter and before submitting to me you shouldl walk away from it to review it again with fresh eyes. The form will give ideas of what to include in the letter. This is your chance to advocate for yourself and to remind me of things you did my classes that you would like me to uplift. An optional template is available at this link.
While the form submission is due 4 weeks before your first letter is due, the draft of your letter is due 3 weeks before your first letter is due.
I commit to not plagarize; that is, any letters will be written entirely by me. If you will need to check a box or acknowledge that you took no part in the letter writing, let me know so that I can be sure to use no phrases whatsoever from your letter in mine; in such cases yours will serve as an example of writing (only).
Follow up with NJ if you don't hear a response within 5 days.
If NJ says she can do it, your next steps are to:
Send NJ your draft of your letter at least 3 weeks before your letter is due.
email NJ 10 dayse before the letter is due if you haven't received submission confirmation
email NJ again 3 days before the letter is due if ... (see above)
email NJ again 24 hours before the letter is due if.. (see above)
