004181-004184: Open Hour

Grades 11-12 | No credit is awarded

Students in grades 11 and 12 will be allowed to register for an open period twice during the year (2 quarters). There is no guarantee or obligation for an open to occur during a specific quarter or hour.

001380-001383: Core Studies

Grades: 9-10 | Counselor approval required

A guided study hall led by assorted PLHS faculty. This counts as an elective credit. Space is limited and requires approval by PLHS counselor prior to registration. This can be taken once per quarter.

Zero Hour

Health & Phy Ed, Algebra 2

Zero hour will be offered as an option to all students during the registration process. Students who choose to take a zero hour class will attend class from 7:00 to 7:55 AM. Students must provide their own transportation to school.

Teachers Assistants (TA)

Grades: 11-12 | 0.5 credits

Students will not register as aides during the normal registration process, but should request an aide application form within the first three (3) days of the quarter in which they wish to serve as an aide. A student may not be assigned as an aide for more than one hour per quarter. 0.5 credit will be awarded per quarter as Pass/No Credit.

English Language Learning

Students should speak with their current EL teacher or Counselor for registration information for these courses.


English Language Development

This course is for students whose first language is not English and who have a beginning level English proficiency. Students will learn grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation by reading, writing, listening to, and speaking English. Students will use readings, demonstrations, games, writing, and discussions to learn English.


Language for Academics A

This course is for students whose first language is not English and who have an intermediate level English proficiency. This course will allow students to practice in the areas of speaking, reading, listening, and writing. Along with this language practice, students will work on academic vocabulary, get scaffolds for assignments and assessments in content areas, and develop skills in organization and prioritizing.


Language for Academics B

This course is for students whose first language is not English and who have an advanced level of English proficiency. This course will allow students to practice in the areas of speaking, reading, listening, and writing. Along with this language practice, students will work on academic vocabulary, get scaffolds for assignments and assessments in content areas, and develop skills in organization and prioritizing.

Special Education

Students who qualify for Special Education services should coordinate with their Case Manager to select courses that fit best with their needs. New enrollments will be assigned a Case Manager.

Work Based Learning Seminar A (001484)

Students in this course have mild to moderate independent functioning skills. These students may have a Seminar and/or Students in this course develop an understanding of their disability, how to advocate for their needs, an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, develop an understanding of soft skill and expectations in a work-based site, and an understanding of different jobs and requirements for different jobs.


Work Based Learning Seminar B (001483)

Students in this course develop a portfolio demonstrating self-awareness and self management skills as well as develop a post-secondary plan (continued throughout their course and subsequent years if taken more than once), as well as skills related to post-secondary success and gainful employment.


Work Based Learning Experience A (001487)

Work Based Learning Experience: Students in this course have needs related to independent functioning skills, including but not limited to: independent living, soft skills as related to obtaining and retaining employment, and/or significant medical needs that may impact postsecondary success. Students in this course may use employment opportunities for credit, or may use the course to explore career fields to deepen their understanding of post-secondary employment options.
