Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a program for four-year-olds to introduce and practice skills needed for kindergarten. We focus on not just academics, but social emotional learning and creativity through play.
Every day in TK is different and full of learning and fun: there really is no 'typical' day! However, you can expect your child to participate in learning opportunities through:
Whole Group Lessons
Small Groups
Independent Practice
Snack Recess
Literacy (Phonics, Reading, Writing)
Math
Handwriting & fine motor practice
Specials such as Art, Science, Library
Choice Time/Exploration/Free Play
TK is all about learning through play! We introduce many academic concepts that will carry us into kindergarten the following year. Here are just a few of the things we will learn:
Phonics: We’ll learn letter names and sounds.
Reading: We’ll learn concepts of print and phoneme awareness (such as blending syllables, segmenting compound words, recognizing rhymes)
Writing: We’ll learn how to use pictures to show details to our dictated sentences and to tell a story.
Handwriting: We’ll learn how to write our name, uppercase letters, and numbers 0-10.
Math: We’ll learn number sense to 10 and counting to 20, as well as patterns and shapes.
Social Studies: We’ll learn about different holidays and our community around us.
Science: We’ll learn about weather, our five senses, magnets, and the ocean.
Social Emotional Learning: We’ll learn about different emotions through Kimochis curriculum and how to understand those emotions.
